The 124th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 6th September 1899 over the Old St Leger course on Town Moor, was Flying Fox, a bay colt by Orme out of Vampire, owned by the Duke of Westminster. A field of 6 runners contested the race, although there were 179 subscriptions of 25 sovereigns each, which was worth 4975 sovereigns. The value to the winner was £4,050.
